Laura’s Place — A Place to Begin Again

Some projects are about growth.

Some are about progress.

And some — like Laura’s Place — are about something even more important: restoring safety, dignity, and hope when it’s been taken away.

Laura’s Place is a new transitional housing initiative being created right here in our community to serve women and children who are rebuilding their lives after domestic violence and sexual assault. Operated by Help In Crisis, this space is being designed not simply as a shelter, but as a place of stability — a place where healing can begin, routines can return, and families can start imagining a future again.

For many survivors, leaving an unsafe situation is only the first step. The days and weeks that follow can be overwhelming. Finding housing. Securing basic necessities. Navigating trauma. Caring for children. Trying to work or attend school while everything feels uncertain.

Laura’s Place exists to bridge that gap.

It offers a safe, supportive environment where survivors can take a breath, regain their footing, and receive the care and resources they need to move forward — emotionally, physically, and practically. It is a space grounded in compassion, confidentiality, and respect.

What makes Laura’s Place especially meaningful is that it’s not a distant concept or a national program — it’s local. It’s being built by people who live here, work here, and care deeply about the well-being of our neighbors. It represents a community choosing to say, “You are not alone, and you matter.”

And it’s almost ready.

The team behind Laura’s Place has been working tirelessly to prepare the space, gather resources, and build the infrastructure needed to open the doors. They are incredibly close — just a few final steps away from welcoming the first families inside.

That’s where the community comes in.

Projects like this don’t happen quietly or easily. They happen because people show up. Because local businesses, families, donors, volunteers, and everyday citizens decide that protecting and supporting others is worth investing in.

Supporting Laura’s Place isn’t just about funding a building — it’s about funding second chances. It’s about making sure that when someone reaches out for help, there is a place ready to receive them with care and dignity.

If you feel called to support Laura’s Place — whether through a donation, spreading the word, or learning how to get involved — you can do so here:

Because when a community creates space for healing, it becomes stronger for everyone.
